Fear or Fear Not!

"For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."   II Tim. 1:7

In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in his first Presidential Inaugural speech said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

As a college student in 1989, Brian Scudamore was fearless. He went from being a High School dropout to CEO of his own company. And, in 2018, his business made a whooping 300 millon dollars. Scudamore began collecting junk and old stuff that people needed discarded from their homes.  In 1989 he couldn't have known it would become a 300 million/year business but he was fearless. Originally known as The Rubbish Boys whose slogan was "We'll Stash Your Trash in a Flash," the company is now known as 1-800-Got-Junk.

Scudamore says he had no money, no business model, no high-tech strategy and no equipment when he started.  What he did have when he started out was a clear-cut vision for what he wanted to accomplish.  He also hired people and knew to treat them like family, a business family.  He was also convinced that everyone has junk and many have neither the time or ability to get rid of it themselves so his company does.  He knew that hard work and elbow grease could get you far in life.  He could have easily sloughed off the idea of starting the company:  How easy to say, "I'm too young.  I lack capital.  I don't know enough," and on and on.  Fear of any of these would have nipped in the bud the birth of his highly profitable business

Today's message is simple.  Some of you have a real grip on what it is that God has placed in your heart.  You are afraid, however, that you don't have enough money, enough talent, enough know-how to pull it off.  So what that you don't have a complex business model or business plan?  Are you willing to work hard?  Maybe it isn't the right time or place right now.  But for some of you, nothing is holding you back except your own fears, most of which are unfounded.  Is the power of the Holy Spirit within you or not?  Satan is a master at dangling fear before us and sustaining it in our finite minds.

Today's Workplace Challenge:  Cast away all notions that you cannot.  Set aside your fear.  Roosevelt was right.  So was Paul.  Fear is not of God.  It stifles His calling on your life.  So crank your truck on this Monday morning and drive toward your dream, goal or God-call.  What is it that He wants to do through you?  "I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord.  Plans for good not evil, plans for a hope and a future." (Jer. 29:11)   Listen to the voice of Truth and not what the junk-talk Satan throws your way.  Have a great workday on this Wednesday and make it count for His glory!
